Hey.
I have been creating a rendered image of a building and site that I have designed for school. It's almost complete but I'm trying to insert some cars into it to make it a little more realistic. The cars I got from the net are either .max, .3ds, or .dxf. I have 3D Studio Viz R3, and when I render the cars in Viz they work perfectly with all the materials and mapping. Problem: When I try to import the files into AutoCAD, the textures and mapping doesn't work. How can I make it so I can render the cars in AutoCAD with all the materials and mapping?? Thanks. Matt |

Hi Matt
AutoCAD only imports the 3DS geometry but does not support the materials or mapping provided by 3DS files. Probably best to render out your Viz images and then insert them into the AutoCAD file as an image. Regards Kerry Thompson |

Why are you taking the Viz models into AutoCad to render them? Are you using Revit/Accurender? If so, you need to assign new materials to the imported objects. Alternatively, what prevents you from importing the AutoCAD model into Viz?

Hey.
I do my rendering in Auto CAD mostly becuase my computer can handle it easier and I'm not totaly awary of the technigques used to map the texturs. Here is the image I'm working on. I have just started doing this, so any suggestions would be great. All the vehicles are 3DS files.
