Timeline Challenge Start Date: November 24, 2003 Challenge End Date: January 31, 2004 Voting Starts: February 1, 2004 Voting Ends: February 7, 2004 Scenario/Challenge The goal of this challenge is pretty simple. Just download the file and render the best image you can. The model is VERY rich in detail and provides many oppourtunities for different camera angles, sunlight, incandecent lighting, light from a fireplace as well as an oppourtunity to really challenge your texture mapping skills. You can add any furnishings or accessories to the model that you wish, but the exiting architecture must remain intact. As it is pretty close to the holiday season, we will be running this challenge for two months, so that everyone has a chance to get involved in this challenge. I have uploaded the MAX file and a few of the textures and will be uploading some more elements and file formats later this week, but feel free to take a look at the existing model and see what you can do. As there is alot of time we can sort out any issues with the file or textures (should you want to resuse them) over the course of the week. File Download http://www.cgarchitect.com/challenge...challenge8.zip (18 MB) Submitting your entry Submission can be made by posting your image to the thread located here: http://www.cgarchitect.com/cgi-bin/u...&f=22&t=000019 Thanks A big thank you to Wm. Alexander (WDA) for providing the model and information for this file. [ January 27, 2004, 06:52 PM: Message edited by: Jeff Mottle ]

Hi Jeff,
Just downloaded the file, great model. I'm new to the monthly challenges and just wanted to be sure about what I was alowed to do. I saw that there were already a lot of lights in the scene and that a lot of materials had been created. Do they count as fixed elements (like the architecture)? If so, then the challenge, as you mention in the timeline is to map the materials to the geometry (tricky stuff)and to choose a point of view and then render. On that note, can we use any renderer or is the standard scanline imposed? I'm looking foreward to working on this one over the holidays. Thanks for your reply, François Yenny |

back to the better way of running a challenge. I believe challenges will become more popular back again just thanks to that. |
