The Four Seasons
Rules Challenge Start Date. November 4, 2002 Challenge End Date: December 2, 2002 1. Using the provided model, this challenge requires you to fully texture, light and create a proper environment for a client’s new home to be built in one of four locations. The client has purchased four properties, but can only build a house on one. He will make his decision based upon the house and environment that best suits his tastes. Keep in mind that this client is a bit eccentric, so don’t feel that you have to show the home in ideal weather conditions or season. The criteria for the scene are as follows: a. The home will be built on/in either: i. An Italian vineyard ii. A town in the Colorado Rockies iii. An arid desert town in New Mexico iv. On an ocean front property on the Atlantic Ocean There are plenty of resources on the net on these locations so feel free to do a bit of research. b. You choose the season (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) c. Be sure to make the surroundings look lived in. Include entourage and elements that make the yard and environment look lived in. (People, Trees, Flowers, furniture etc are all fair game) 2. This is a WIP challenge so you must post the at least one progress shot with as much information about how you created the scene to the CGarchitect.com forums. You must post your PC specs, the rendering program you used, render times, setup info etc. The point of the challenge is to allow everyone to learn as much as they can from each other, so the more information you can post the better. 3. You can submit only one entry. You choose one season and one location, but are allowed to submit multiple views of that scene provided they are all composited onto one image submission. You are not required to use the camera that is included in the scene. 4. The majority of your scene must be created from scratch, so photomontaging is not allowed for this challenge. You can use photomontaging for more complicated elements, but should be kept to an absolute minimum. Model Download The model of the clients house can be downloaded here. A huge thanks to Bigcahunakelner for providing the model for this challenge. http://www.cgarchitect.com/challenge...3/4seasons.zip (447KB) Includes: LP(Lightscape), DXF, MAX (version4) DWG, LWO, OBJ, C4D and 3DS Submitting you image and the voting process CGarchitect.com has partnered with the guys from CGchallenge.com, a newly launched site, for this and all future challenges. Final image submission and voting will take place on CGchallenge.com. Simply head over to http://www.cgchallenge.com and submit your images to the Architectural Visualization challenge. Your peers and people from various CG professions will rank each submitted image and based upon these votes will determine the winner. Prizes This month prize will be awarded by the guys at ArchVision. [ November 04, 2002, 08:50 PM: Message edited by: Jeff Mottle ]

I gotta say that I find it quite distastefull if this is a real project. Any person who would call himself an architect that willingly plopped a modern monstrosity down anywhere without any regard whatsoever for the local environment, etc. is nothing but a cheap developer in my opinion. Design-wise this thing has no business being in a place where it snows - lovely to see the roof colapse on this from the snow load. It is totally out of place in the desert... maybe in on the Atlantic coast... I can picture it fitting in nicely say in Florida. It's slightly passible at best in Italy, but really now, making something "modern" doesn't mean it can go anywhere. I think Meis has proved that time and time again.
