I believe finalRender supports MAX's photometric lights. AFAIK, the light distribution is not reliable in a physically-correct approach, or in the way LS handles light distribution. It SUPPORTS them, but I'm afraid not in a photometric way.

Brazil is scheduled to come out with IES lights in version 2. You can see some examples of this in their gallery here:

IES support in BRazil r/s was added some time ago when version 1.2 was released... just a follow up.

Funny, I posted this question a while ago.

To update, I made the switch over to VRAY. Since I work for an interior design company I use a lot of ies lights for scenes and I found that VRAY can handle pretty much anything I throw at it. Not to mention the quality in the rendering engine. I never tried Brazil or Mental Ray, either way I would assume that the newer versions of 3rd party renderers would have to take on ies capabilities or run the risk of being left in the dirt.

Cheers

I have used IES in Vray... it seems to work and looks good... don't know if it is "officially" supported.
