Hey you VRAY-ers out there,

Is there a way to revert the vray materials to standard max materials? I've heard of a script that does the reverse, so it makes vray mats from standard max mats. If you can point out where I could find that script I can re-program it I hope..

Thanks

Hi, quizzy!
I'm not sure there really is such script. I mean, VRay turns the standard materials present in the scene into VRay mats using VRayMtlWrapper, ie, only making a manual process automatic. But the standard material is still there. I believe you can't take a real VRay material and turn it into a standard one, for there are so many differences between them.
But i'm just speculating. Maybe you should ask Vlado directly on the VRay forums.

okay,

I didn't know the vraymtlwrapper did that. I thought there was a script for doing that. Ah well, I've changed all materials by hand into standard MAX materials allready...

thanks anyway

Well the Vray wrapper helps make your Standard materials work more optimally inside Vray, but they are still not as efficiant as using a VratMat. And there is a script (3rd party) that someone wrote to do this. Not sure where it is. But yes, if you want to quickly optimize your standard mats to vray mats, use the warpper. Keep in mind that a pure vray mat has no specular so it will not look as good, and in the long run still be someone slower.

A long time ago, I switched all my standard mats to a vray mat, and got a speed boost of 10 to 1.
