I just stumbled across this late yesterday. Here's my 3ds Viz 2006 & Mentalray entry:

PC Stats:
Dual Intel Xeon 3.06Ghz CPU
2.00 GB RAM
128 MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 1100

Render Settings:
GI = 500 Photons per Sample
10000 Photons per Light
Global energy multiplier = 1.5
Decay = 2
Final Gather: samples = 1000, filter = 1, max/min radius = 18"/1"

Specular Bloom = MR's "Glare" camera output shader

Processing & Render time = 2:50

Here's the exact same render but with a glass sphere and some caustics. The render time went up to 14:34.

Here is my old post with my version of the model in DXF:

I decided to take a try at a highly optomized version of the basic model posted for these tests. I rebuilt the model on a strict module. Almost every polygon in this model is .5 meters x .5 meters, with a small number at .5x.25m The model is metric and in DXF format, NO triangles. No real-world model would be so optomized, of course.

For consistency's sake, I suggest anyone using the new model render a view from:

camera x, 1 y, -5 z, 1.4
target x, 3 y, 10 z, 1.4
view angle 76 degrees
rendered to 720x486

sun is still at 346/23 (or 194/23 for Lightscape)

Because the proportions changed a bit when I re-did this, the light hits at different points, but I like it because it hits all on a wall so most of the light on the floor is bounced.

The original model was posted in post #2
http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/34356-post2.html
and I just checked it, the links still work.

Strange, here at home I can download nunos model but from work couldn't, firewall issues most likely.

I had followed for a while this site:

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/nickamy/

but had not know he had started "officially" his indigo render, very nice stuff. I think I ran into the original website when all the hype on maxwell had started and someone had suggested to look over at the indigo render (electronik render in the start) for the real sky-real sun lighting. But know it looks like it is picking up, nice.

How about you, have you giving it a try? How about maxwell or the new real sky-sun in vray 1.5?
