ok...here comes a big one...

i did improve the mesh subdivision in overall (but in some faces i improved even more) and i am raytracing now sky light...the raytracing times did take to much long in this test(i cant say for sure cause it did the job during the night and the glass object that i added contributed for this times too).
the light distribution in this case is almost perfect, imho. next step is...make disapear all the few artifacts (about 3 or 4)...i will do this by subdividing the mesh even more but only on the faces that shows artifacts. if we all could do this in the different packages (make disapear ALL the artifacts) , it would be great...this way we could really compare the renderer engines.

ok...here are the images:

keep the good work guys,
best to all,
nuno

p.s. i must apologise to strat cause i forgot to mention 'cinema 4d'... . come on guys!!! bring all the software (maya, softimage, etc..., etc...)
and delfos...show us your fakeiosity (btw...it's excellent).

Hi guys

had a spare half hour for lunch,
so i thought id take my fav renderer for a spin

vray....
6 mins to calculate
2 mins to render

settings
min -3 max -1
hspheres subdiv = 80
interpolate samples = 40
5 bounces

plastic?
max 5 seems to be doing a great job in the radiosity department.
did u have to do much fiddling to get them rendering?

ive only played with the light tracer, which as far as i understand, is a gi render, rather than a radiosity based one.

no fiddling...i barely touched the default settings.
i think as soon as its clear what each setting does its pretty easy to set things up without much tweaking.
the interesting thing with max 5 is that you can use a mix between radiosity and GI (undersampled regathering).
its a bit like photon mapped GI then. very useable.

Ok,

I'll weigh in w/C4D XL7. I'm really new w/C4D, so Strat may have suggestions on how to improve these because they took longer than i expected and have some artifacts

excellent.....i really like what we are achieving here...very good indeed.
thanks delfoz and paul griger for your replies.

can you refine a little bit the rad? it seems it could be really great your work with inspirer......but looks like it take to much time too...!?
and Craig Ramsay ...could you improve your brasil rad a little bit? i heard brasil is very good with rad, and i really which to see it.

thanks to all of you,

In reply to the Brazil render shown by Craig Ramsay. I've been running Brazil on a P3 866 laptop with 512 ram and could get it to render a scene like that in about 5 mins with less grainyness. Brazil whips the ass of Max scanline!

If I find time, I will download the test file and see what I can do with it.

Craig - What lighting / settings did you use? Oh.. Nice to see a fellow Scot in here too (your Scottish right?...)

Mike
