Pasting the uploaded file's URL becomes: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/attach...hmentid=&stc=1 from text of (also mangled) hXXp://ZZZ.cgarchitect#com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=168&stc=1 attempting to paste the URL for an image gets: Now, if you take my text post of the URL, fix the parts I messed, you will get the image. No conclusions, but I hope that helps, Jeff. |

Ok I'm getting closer to figuring this out. Can you tell me two things:
1. Explain the EXACT process you go through to copy a link. I know this sounds dumb, but your exact method is key in nailing this down. I know what is happneing, but I need to know how you are doing it. Can you give me the step by step from the time you upload an image using the attachment utility to the time you are done posting the message. 2. What posting interface are you using? Basic Editor, Standard Editor or Enhanced WYSIWYG Interface? Thanks Ernest.

First, WYSIWYG. It HAS worked on some posts, just not all. -OK, type some, then more... -click 'manage attachments' button, browse, upload -once the pic is UL, I right-click on its name in the attachment pop-up window (the ULer) and 'copy shortcut' -paste URL into message for link OR -click image icon above message area, paste URL into its pop-up either way I see the full URL in the work area now, I click 'preview' and I see a shortened URL for either method. If the image icon was used, I see the image in the WYSIWYG writing area, but not in the preview. Interestingly, the image comes in with 'handles' and they overflow the writing area, showing up outside the gray area onto the white background, they scroll with the text. -Post the post often with the odd URL result I have tried going back to edit the post, tried re-uploading the file, re-pasting the link, doesn't change things. hope that helps... |

If you are familiar with HTML or even the [IMG] tag code you will see how what is shown on the page and what is actually linked to, can be two seperate things. For example: (I've substituted [ and ] for ( and ) so you can see what I mean.) (url=http://www.vbulletin.com) (img)http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif(/img) (/url) OR (url=http://www.vbulletin.com) Whatever I want goes here (/url) The green part is the link that you go to when the link is clicked. The red part is what is shown as the link. In the first example an image and inthe second text. When you use the WYSIWYG interface and post, both the link object and the physical link are made to be the same. If you are saying it sometimes works and sometimes does not I *think* it is probably becuase the WYSIWYG interface is getting confused and posting a link that is different from what you see in the interface. From the look of the links you posted the actual attachment number after the equal sign is being removed. I'm not sure why. If you use the Standard interface you will be able to see the actual code and fix the post manually. Does any of that make sense?
