Default Need software for new firm..

Hi All,

I've just started work at a new Arch firm, and need advice on purchasing software. There was a specific department that handled the purchasing at my old firm, however this firm is alot smaller and now I'm responsible.

Specifically I need to purchase a copy of Max/VIZ and some image/texture libraries. We have a couple local autodesk resellers, but I was just wondering if there are better places to shop online.

Also, can anyone comment on Marlin/Dosch/Archvision image libraries? The Archvision (RPC) seems pretty expensive compared to the others. Are there any other companies that offer comparable products?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I think for max or viz, you have to purchase through a reseller. As far as texture librarys, I have imagecels and use them extensively. I know there are quite a bit of people who use marlin and like those as well.

With MAX 6 having most AEC features included would be better than VIZ. You will have more CONTROL , functionality and more Possibilities with plugins.

for Image libs, they actually not comparable. they all have good contents in specific areas. Compare the library specific contents and buy to have the best combination. RPC are good for animations and is not replacable by any other library.

CAUTION!! Be sure to check with Discreet/Autodesk if the licence can be transfered. In alot of cases it can not be transfered and when it can you wont be elegible for upgrades and will have to buy the next version at full price. Alot of other software publishers are more relaxed in the transfering of licences.

Just something to keep in mind.

For personal use I'd be ok with me, but Ebay is not an option with company stuff.
