Default MR: blurred reflections

Hi,

How can I make blurred reflections in MR without using the metal shader?

Basicly, I can make reflections the way I want with the MR-mental shader, but I don't get the highlight areas when light an shadows strike the surface...
I've tried to mix metal and DGS shaders, but the DGS reflections always shine through. I've also added a DGS material in the metal/diffus color slot... Both don't give me the disired result... Any tips?

OR How can I make blurred reflections with the DGS shader?

nisus,
I was asking myself the very same question earlier. If you have not found an answer, please check out the thread over on CGTalk where I got my answer. In short, it involves using a Metal(Lume) material in a mix with your floor, and using falloff as the mix map.

Here's the link to the thread that helped me out:

http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php...page=103&pp=15

It's post #1544, (you have to scroll down a bit) with the images showing a red box on a wood floor. The next reply is from Jeff Patton, who is a Mental Ray material Guru, and he's got a file there that solve the problem as best we know how.

Good luck.

Hi Jason,

Exactly what I was looking for! I have tried to do the same with nested metal/dgs shaders, but did not come that close to Jeff Pattons result.

Tnx also for the very clear guiding: link, number of post ,-) It took me only seconds to find what you ment, something that not everyone is aware of when posting tips ,-)
