Hi,
I´ve some beginner problems with dwg-files in Maya 6. I was successfull in importing the dwg file of an medieval chapell but in Maya I only have a load of square shapes, acad points, polylines and stuff. It looks very strange and with some fantasy you can recognice the shape of the chapell. How can I manipulate this strange shapes? I just can select them but thats all. I would prefer to convert them into polygons. Can anybody helb me? |

What did the dwg file come from? I havce had wierd stuff from a dwg file exported from datacad, since the program tries to make a 3d model on the fly i had some curves extruded to make walls in + and - x axis so it was a complete botchup, also check some of your import options and check your clipping plane on your camera attribute editor, should be about .001 to 10000 for example and also I import dwg files usually at a scale of .001 or .0001 not the default 1.

Cat, I had the same problem for a cad drawing project imported on maya. If you push the "3" key you'll see your lines be more soft and sharp. I did some extruding operations with my lines but the faces result was very bad and not manageable. At the end I had to re-draw all the lines with Maya ones, snapping on the cad lines imported. If you do like this at the end you'll have a "light" model in Maya.
You could try with Polytrans program, but I don't know if it works good for you. Good luck!! |

A good way to resolve problems of dwg files is opening them in Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand and then convert them in an Adobe Illustrator 8 eps file. They will come as just one group to better use it for modelling in maya
