Default create line and pan

does any1 know, for the love of god, how to pan while creating a line in max?
seems like everytime i try to pan the line breaks off and i really want to create a line over a distance greater than i can see on my screen.

thanx! K.C.

dunno. just as easily, why not just zoom in/out with your middle mouse wheel?

always been a problem, max doesn't seem to like panning when in a command. like Strat suggested use zoom instead.

C'mon. Surely a Keyboard Cowboy would know this

Try pressing keyboard "i" - will center view where mousepointer is, even during linecreation. If this doesn't work, your keyboard shortcuts may be set up differently. Lookup the command in your manual or the help menu. Its called "Pan viewport".

(All of this applies at least to max6)

Don't use the "pan" button...

type "i" on the keyboard and that's all... (while dragging the mouse)
in this way you can scroll in max while drawing...

hope it helped

Coming from AutoCAD and Rhino, I have also been fighting the poor paning abilities in max.
Would anybody know if using a Spaceball 5000 would be the answer to the dilema ? Can that device override the default max setting of "Pan" stoping any operation in progress ?
500 $ is a bit much though :-(

Perhaps there is a way to Bind the "i" shortcut to your middle mouse button (scroller) so that paning will work the same as it does in AutoCad?

Uh Oh... I think I hear yet another request for AutoCad like functionality in MAX...
