Default Tyrone Marshall - WIP

The following is my work in progress. This start has a few directions that it can go in. From one point of view, there is a slight urban streetscape if you add a ground plane and and another large mass to the background. Another point of view could have this become some kind of slanted vertical structure featuring two twin slices for the high-rise portion.

I am favoring the urban streetscape point of view. The geometry is all from the shapes that we have been provided. The line work is added.

Comments and crits are glady welcomed!

Good luck everyone!

All that i can say, is that i like the sketchy lines you added to your render, but i'd like to see more views of your building to give any comments or crits about it

Tyrone,

Looks like you're moving towards a successful piece of work! The image is quite seductive, but I would like to get your thoughts on the linework: why was it added and how does it relate to your design intent? Was it purely for visual purposes as a processing technique, or did the sketch originate before the rendering?

Hello Moshenko,

Thank you for the kind words. The use of linework is like a texture for me. This is very conceptual at the moment moving towards a more exact render so what I want to convey with the lines is an intensity of construction and space.

The sketch originates with the render, I control exactly how it interacts with the solid model from the type of line to how many, to how they start, end, and trail off. The render process/sketch lines is connected. I am not sure at this moment if I will need them to translate over into the final render as I will be moving into a different kind of look. The linework will tend to fade and the rendering style will become very realistic.

This is what I am thinking for now, please let me know your thoughts.

More process. More components added, yet still more to come as this scene intensifies to a crescendo of active space.

That's great to hear. I would actually like to see the image get sketchier as opposed to more realistic; we all know what GI can do and don't necessarily need to see it repeated here, in my opinion. It may more appropriately suit your "crescendo of active space"! You obviously made good use of your time at SOM, you have a great touch with design elements and composition.

On the tech side, how are the sketch lines being generated (FinalToon?)?

Thanks Speedline, I will keep it, I have rediscovered some interesting ideas for the final rendering.

Newke, Thanks for the comments! I am working from this particular camera angle for the moment.

Moshenko and Speedline, you both have convinced me to stay with this NPR (non-photorealistic style of rendering) for this first challenge!

Now its taking shape..and i can't wait to see how the scene will be lighted and rendered in NPR. I'm a fan of NPR technique and i'd like to learn that.
