Default Dan Beinart - WIP

Hi there. Here's my work in progress. As the later challenges are fairly suggestive of real situations (whether this proves relevant to me I'll have to wait and see), I thought I'd take this opportunity to do something a bit more fantastical.

I have always been a fan of Piranesi (the artist that is!) particularly his scenes of underground vaults where the unseen lightsources, stairs and bridges lead your minds eye out of the image so this is the inspiration for this scene.

I am trying to avoid overlapping the geometry which is proving interesting particularly in constructing vaulted ceilings.

I look forward to your comments.

Great design, great use of the primatives ! I suppose you will put some water as floor?

I agree, great use of primitives. Honestly, I'm not a fan of fanastical images since i'm more of the architectural type but your concept really intrigues me!
I'll be looking forward o your next WIP!
Great start!

Here's WIP02. A bit more geometry and a vague idea of lighting.

Re the idea of having water at the base I have been toying with the idea of casting up light reflected off unseen water as this would fit in with the overall concept of hinting at things unseen. In WIP03 maybe!

Looking really good. I am a huge fan of fantastic images. To me, this looks like it could be something from the future that was very old. I hope that makes sense.

A new WIP showing a bit more structure for the walkways and background and a first attempt at some texturing. I've gone for ancient ancient rather than future ancient if you see what I mean. I need to experiment a bit more with the scale of the texture I think.

Hi Dan,

I like your image very much, reminds me the work of Piranesi (The Prisons).
I think the lighting-shadow contrast is very interesting and maybe it should be a bit more present in the foreground of your image.

Looks very impresive. I don't think my brain could ever come up with something like that. I agree more light in the foreground would be nice. Some other source other than daylight, maybe with a different color.

Thanks for the comments so far. I agree with alot of them, especially the need to introduce more light/detail up front. Here's a sketch I did to work something out and the subsequent WIP
