I'm just wondering that it must be difficult to draw a clear line between an Architectural Visualization Contest and an Architectural Design Competition. Certainly some factors of good design must affect how a visualization turns out. So wouldn't people with no architecture background be in a disadvantage if good design is factored into the judging process?? Competitors of Challenge#1 are definitely spending a great deal of time designing architecture with those primitive forms. I not sure if this is how this competition is meant to be. Perhaps Jeff can clarify my doubts so that we competitors knows the distinction.

This challenge is being evaluated on 4 categories: Lighting, Composition, Creativity/Originality and Unity. Each of the categories is scored from 1-10 and then weighed by an importance factor for a total possible score of 900.
Lighting: Weight - 30 Composition: Weight - 30 Creativity/Originality: Weight - 10 Unity: Weight - 20 Design amoung other things in that category is evaluated in the Creativity/Originality category but plays a very minimal role in the overall score. Only 11% of the total score, vs Lighting and Composition which each make up 33% and 22% for unity.

Lighting: Is the lighting of the scene appropriate for the space or architecture? If realism is being attempted, how well does the lighting hold up? Are the colors and tones of light used appropriate for the scene and do they work well together? Does the lighting set up a clear mood or evoke emotion? (Weighting: 30) Composition: Is the composition of the scene, cropping, camera angle, and camera position appropriate for the architecture or space. Is the composition both technically and artistically sound? Does the composition tell us anything about the space, set a mood, or enhance the design? (Weighting: 30) Creativity/Originality: How creative and original is the image? Given the shapes that were provided, how creative and original was the scene they put together? Did they use a unique lighting technique? Is the composition creatively set up? Was any creative post production done to the image? Does the image demonstrate an artistic quality and was it informed from other illustration or painting techniques? (Weighting: 10) Unity: Does the image look and feel unified? Do all of the elements (texturing, lighting etc.) feel like they are in harmony with each other? Does the image look polished and have an overall finished quality? (Weighting: 20)
