Unhappy urgent help!!

*guys, im experiencing some problems with my PC right now, i cant run more programs at a time, e.g. photoshop, 3dsmax, autocad, YM..etc..there's a prompt coming that my pc is 'running slow' thus i SHOULD have to close some of the programs. i checked with my DRIVE C. cap. and this i have discovered. can somebody explain why is this happening? i didnt make any updates before. does WIN XP update itself automatically? ..pls help, im in 'nick of time' right now with a big project.

Your drive is full. You need to empty at least one third of your HD to make the programs back to work again. The programs you see as XP hotfixes are updates and bug fixes of microsoft, if you are not making the update manually your Windows must be ready to make automatic updates.

those are patches that windows updater installed. you can turn on and off windows automatic update in the control panel i beleive. you don't have a lot of hard drive space, you probably need to clean out your temp directories, and internet cache directories.

also, about once a month, clean out this directory.. c:\windows\prefetch\

defrag your hard drive.

don't use more virtual memory than you actual need. i would use the same as your ram. ....add more actual ram.

uninstall any programs that you have not used in the past 6 months.

i also recomend switching to windows classic interface. 3dluvr has a tutorial on how to roll back windows xp skins, so that it looks like windows 2000. it will help your system run faster.

hope some of these help.

also, if you are not going to uninstall any of windows patches, you can delete the files in the windows directory that are shaded blue, and read something like ...

$NtUninstallKB885836$

these are the unistall files for the windows system patches.

*thx craze...
*meaning, that i have to delete all the files in this folder? , i tried to defrag also, but it needs around 15% usable free space and i only have 8% Volume (C) free space to run the operation properly however i have an option to continue. is it safe?

nope, windows updates aren't compulsory, but advisable. also, if ur going to defrag make sure you run it in SAFE MODE first.

and why not just invest in some extra HD space? it's literally only a few $$$ these days. will save you all this hastle.

yep, just go in there, select all, and delete. they don't take a lot of space, but they sometimes slow your machine down when accesing different things. they are basically quick launch files. as you use programs, they will be recreated. not sure how much it speeds things up, it was recomended on a speed tweaking site. i typically do it.
