This image reminds me of Rockefeller Center in NYC if not Century City in LA. The elements in the image however suggests a more urban environment. The black taxi though suggests London? I am however very glad to see that somebody tried a very ingenous way to show a building and environment.
If that is indeed water it needs a bit more puddle wave formation if not strategic inclusion of some wave droplets. Puddles and water are always uneven so you should have shown this with some artistsic flair even if the uneven water takes up more of the image but what if the uneven water reflection shows more about the environment and not just the buildings reflected?. That would have been a more powerful image. Also if the environment is raining or just rained wouldn't the lighting reflect this? I expect the buildings to have more contrast in this respect. Also the lighting lacks direction of dominance. It is hard to tell where the main light is coming from. This image works as a pure illustration maybe for a book or poster or other graphic arts application. It does not work so well as an arch-vis image. There is alot of credit though for originality and creativity in presenting the subject matter.

I think the idea is great - in fact I've seen it done succesfully in several animations. Even though it's a departure from arch. vis, I think for the competition it's successful. It does start to get a little flat and the water tends to get a little too polished and deep.
I could see some reflected umbrellas and a VERY light rain improving this image. |

Escher's "Three Worlds", almost. In which he shows reflection, refraction and surface of a pond. You have two. Where's the 'surface'? Perhaps a floating gum wrapper, or a flier for a sunny beach resort? You have a few breaks in the water that suggest its surface, though they are oddly blurry. Water tends to form more sharp edges.
The idea is great, the execution, too. I would like to see a bit more surface disturbance here and there on the puddle. Still, it works. The foreground legs are a touch of brilliance, perfectly place and shaded. They bring you into the picture in a very strong way. The refraction, what you see of the paving under the water is masterfully done. The reflections are very good, though the reflections of the people on the far shore are wrong. It didn't jump out at me, but they are. Perhaps the car could be less reflective to keep the focus on the concept and not getting distracted in the car's surface. Overall, quite creative and well done. |
