Default exterior night_ mainly windows

Hi cgarchitects out there,

First post here.
I recently have official 3d architecture work hooray! so this won't be the last post. I hope.
Anyways i'm supposed to do a night scene of a building with loads of windows.
40 stories.
Any tips on how to
- light most but not all with a variety of tones/color; in a non tedious method?
or
- or just in general?
-and how would u make it look like there's something going on behind them - say a restaurant, lobby? orso?

hmm hope its not too many questions in one go. Thanks for any suggestions.
