Default max/viz model to cinema 4D

We're making a model of a room in max/viz and need to create a walkthough - we have a bunch of macs available for rendering but no PC's so we're going to try importing it into C4d for animation and rendering. We've quickly tried bringing a room over in 3DS and fbx formats - things have moved all over the place in both, in fbx elements had moved and rotated to completely different positions, lights were not recognised in 3DS, materials needed to be remapped etc. Does anyone know the most suitable format for moving between the two, or any resources to look at? Is it just a matter of redoing the faulty parts or are the packages too fundamentally different for this?

Would appreciate any comments,
thanks!

i dont know the pitfalls of moving a pc max/viz created model over to a mac based c4d, but i go between pc max and a pc c4d with models on a daily bases.

yes, you do loose lighting info and multi sub-object mapped materials, but the 3DS transfer DOES retain camera/anim infor and normal mapped material properties between the 2.

You could also look into polytrans. I use it regularly for going between softwares and I love it!
