Default Work Portfolio - UK

Hey,

I have been browsing this site and maxforums now for years and have finally decided to start posting here!

Appologies for making my first post and advice post. I have worked for 2 years now as a freelance artist and am soon to begin a part time architecture course to pick up the basics of structure, materials and form etc.

My question is really for people working in the UK in the arc/viz industry inparticular. What kind of renders are the industry looking for? My current portfolio is very much aimed towards the photoreal side (seems to be all thats wanted) but i have seen numerous other places not working in this way. Will I have to use more commericial approaches or will they be looking for personal approaches? Also, will it matter as to which program and renderer I use when applying?

I understand this all seems pretty basic stuff, and that work mostly relys on spacial interaction, design etc, however, with having had no interaction with big companies it all seems quite daunting.

Thank You For Any Help Or Advice

James

Hi James
I don't think you're post is strange. It's important to know the basics.

Most people at the moment seem to be looking for realistic exterior shots of Commercial and Residential proposals. Interiors have to be VERY realistic in my experience but the demand for them isn't as great.
Some more artistic, non-realistic images are called for occasionally but it is occasionally.

Your choice of software is very important if you want to gain employment as most firms ask for Max/Vray experience. If you're staying freelance it's not such an issue but you'll have an easier time if you stick with them at the moment anyway.

This is all based on my experience but I think it's a good indicator.
