Hello MR Woods, yes I have joined Donal as Creative Director...

I hope we can take a slice of the cg pie and join the table...

I believe the amazing japanse movie won, personally i think the big monkey was the best but the budget is hardly comparable...

Rotunda was cool by the way i didnt get the significance of the dancing robots but they were good all the same.. well done.

not sure if there was a 3rd or 2nd placement up for grabs...You should send me your msn log details so we can have a catch up..as for Grace she loves max..shes so into her poly modelling mate you wouldnt believe it...no seriously shes mastered a crayon and doing a fine job at that too.

take it easy Tyahimmmy

hell Deja, Id have thought some geek would have posted the results somehwere not seen anything on the net..

Talking Re: Who won?

Indeed BHAA won the animation (chinese company by the way where yiruan works, she was the winner of last year cgarchitect viz competition) and the still image went to Gus Capote of Preconstruct, Sean de Boer from Australia and the Salt lake group won the cgarchitect viz competition and let me say congrats to all!

The conference was GREAT! I think the only bad thing that I can say is that we needed more time, all the speakers where great, and I specially loved the diverse range of topics that was covered in the conference, artistic, technical, business and architecture, I specially loved the last conference of the round table of "Beyond Photorealisim" but maybe I am bias beacuse I am an architect so that is my first love. Hope to see some more "on the edge" architecture firms represented next year in San Diego like Greg Lynn or Ghery, etc.

The presentation by the Chaosgroup of Vray 1.5 was amazing, Lon of Neoscape showed all the new goodies on it and it loooks amazing, Peter answered all the questions and "fears" with the new dongles and Vlado like usual had all the right answers.

The food and open bar was great but best of all was two things, the opportunity to finally meet face to face people like Jeff, Lon, Vlado and all the users here in cgarchitect and the organization of Steve and Jeff was perfect and to think this is the first one!!! It only gets better and better from here, wow!

There was talk of maybe making next year's conf two days and that would be perfect, get more people, more presenters more topics, oh and I think that vendors and sponsers lost a great oportunity to sell some "souviners" no mugs or pens or posters, etc.... but the dvc boston 2006 t-shirt and bag are great take aways, thanks!!!

Hope to talk to all here and hope to see all next year!!!

Well done to them. it was a very impressive bit of work.

Karl, cheers. Rotunda was a chance to muck about it guess. So we did somehting a little less stuffy than the usual camera flythough. My days of those are now officially over. Roll on the VFX!
Good luck with donal try not to beat him to death in the first week of being in that office alone with him.

Your post made me laugh. I keep trying to persuade clients that something with more of the scene moving rather than the camera floating around would make for a better presentation but without success...so far. It seems that the fly-through is entrenched.

Going back to the BHAA animation. Very impressive but did anybody else spot the flickering building half-way through?

That could also have been as a result of re-encoding all of the already compressed animations to MPEG-2

That's a relief!

I think I am just too atuned to picking out dropped maps and render artefacts from different render nodes.

Congratulations to the winners incidentally...and the nominees.
