Default Re: anybody try RTSquare 1.3 yet

I tried it with VIZ 2007 and it seems to work. I have already filed three bugs in the forum, which have all been solved in less then a day. So the developers are currently very active

If you use fairly low settings, you can get extremely fast renderings. You might not immediately want to use if for full-quality high-res architectural renderings with lots of geometry and global illumination, but you can try to tweak it for fast rendering of architectural animations.

They do support shadows, raytracing and some sort of GI.

I used it with a Quadro FX 1400 (which is not in their list of supported hardware).

My test was a hundred instanced teapots (generating 2500000 polygons) and a single directional lightsource. It rendered a 640x480 image in a few seconds.
It blasted away the scanline rendering for that particular scene, but I could get Mental Ray to get results that came close to it.

So you'll have to learn where it will be the biggest time gain.

(I'm an academic user, so I can use the free non-commercial version without any legal problems)
