Default viz 2008 - multi-threading

does viz2008 support dual-core xeon? i have a macpro with winxp pro x64, and when i render, it shows 4 cpu but only 2 threads are utilized. the multi-threading box in ticked, and my task manager shows 4 processes

There was some discussion about this in the past, and from what I remember, VIZ is only 32bit, so unless you buy MAX, you aren't going to get true multi-treaded performance.

However, Mental Ray and Radiosity (or Advanced Lighting) should use all your processors. If you are doing a regular scan-line render, you might not see more than two...

hmm...guess either have to wait for the x64bit version or upgrade to max

did a test render using Mental Ray and it only shows 3 threads. so i guess it is really limited to that since it's 32-bit

No, 32-bit OSes and apps can support 4 CPUs if they so desire. That's not what's causing the problem (though I couldn't tell you what is, not knowing anything about Viz 2008...)
