Are you modeling the ridges or using bump map? If you can afford it and quality matters, model the ridges, otherwise it will look very flat at the edges. Edit Poly is your friend.

I think it depends how close you get to see this material. If it's very close to your camera, I would definitely model it. If it's really far, you can get away with a bump material made of black and white lines, to simulate the ribs, or even with displacement to get more detail. But again, you should think about it in terms of how much detail do you want. |
