Default Which people?

So which people do you use in your animations?

I've been using RPC and think they are OK, often come up with missing errors even though they have just been placed in the scene, gobble up memory and the walking ones, well they dont look great do they... so...

Are they the best out there at the moment? Any suggestions would be great!

We cant go down the green screening route, and I use images in stills with PS but some animations require the camera to move past the odd person...

So all I want to know is, which people do you use? Is it RPC, mesh... what? A poll would be good

If we are not going to see them too close up we use Forest Pro. We have created a multi sub-object material with hundreds of different people maps. Once you have that its easy to create a crowd of people although there's not much control after creation. It's best for people in the distance or in an aerial view. Also they are able to turn and face the camera at all times. Find it at www.itoosoftware.com.

I've heard good things about AXYZ people in conjunction with their mocap data. I've seen them implemented pretty well in a number of high end animations.

I haven't dropped them into an animation, but I use them for stills all the time. They are pretty good up to medium range.

So do most of you use RPC people in your scenes?

Even the walking ones?

Is the Forest Pro free software? We will need to use properly licenced software over hacked downloads here thats all. So is that a plugin that creates planes with people maps on very quickly? Sure I've heard of something like that before sometime, or was I dreaming?

Thanks for the help folks

I try to avoid them unless asked to put people in.....

But when needed I use RPC when close.... composited in over matte materials in photoshop that way I can tweak the lighting and shadows of the people to match the scene.

I've started playing with axyz which are great for medium-far viewing although I am having some issues with posing the people, once I get over this hurdle (see link) I'm definitely going to try to implement them into my work flow more often specially since the work so much better than RPCs for receiving the lighting in the scene.

No secrets just good people

hire a studio and shoot green screen for film.

get out of the office and take picutes of people in the business centres of town/cites etc and get placement students to path them out.

I try and avoid stock at all costs.

Yeah I've been out taking photo's of people for still images and they are indeed way better.

Just in animations, flythroughs etc we move past people so I was trying to avoid a static image on a flat poly that always faces the camera. And have walking people that didnt look like ape's.

Green screen wont be an option I'm sure.
