Post books

does anyone know of any good books regarding 3ds max modeling, texturing, lighting and stuff of that nature? Also if anyone knows of any photoshop books which explain the best way to make texture maps for 3ds Max. Cheers

One of the main necessities in 3d work is by far lighting. I think it's the foundation of any 3d scene. The one book that really puts it all together for a wide range of users will be Essential CG Lighting Techniques with 3Ds Max.

...and if you find that Mental Ray is your renderer of choice, these two books hold some good and simple to grasp information about the beast (the sweet beats ):

- Realistic Architectural Visualization with 3ds Max and Mental Ray

- Rendering with Mental Ray & 3ds Max

Regards,

Dani

Default Re: books

if you want a good book about modeling, forget about it. There is no better way than practice and the best resources is internet, there is a lot of tutorial on many forum like here or cgtalk.

lightning and rendering, there is a few. these that daniohayon talk about are good but again, you'll find that there is similar information on the net.

So if you want really good books, it's not in the cg domain that i will recommend but more general theories like William Lam's studies. It's harder to read but it will give you incredible knowledge.

however, if you want an interesting book about texturing and rendering, you can buy Deconstructing the Elements without plugins with 3ds max.
