Hi Jon maybe this reply comes late, but indeed, Max has a superior quality. I work with artlantis S too, and now with version 2, i want to say you that the software has made very good improvements, basically with lightning, this made a very big difference between 4.5 and 1.2 versions, so i think in the future artlantis is going to be a better renderer, i use artlantis because is extremely easy to use, and my clients are very satisfied with the work, not all in this 3d life is just photorealistic images, another think i like artlantis is the fast renderer engine that it has.
i hope to see here your images Jon best regards Lucho

I don't use the new version of Artlantis yet, but I've looked at the demo version.
The cloud generator is good! - But I think Abvent should have made a grass generator too. I really struggle with the grass. I haven't got time to check that out yet, but is there improvements with reflections and speculars? I also find it hard to do interior perspectives when the client wants the quality they've seen done in the big visualisation projects out there. Obviously not rendered with Artlantis. What should one do if they want photorealism? Ultimately, thats what the client wants. I'm open for suggestions on how (in Artlantis) to do nice window reflections based on the background or how to do nice grass. I've attached two pieces that I've done. ![]() ![]() Last edited by chroma; July 27th, 2008 at 04:49 AM. |

Hi Jon
Nice work! the first image looks really nice, about the second image the house has a good architecture, perhaps is so white to me. have you tried the cristal fresnel??, its enhance the image because the reflects dont look flat, in the real life reflects are a little moved. Yes, you are right, the grass is a problem to me too, i think there could be in the future a grass tool, because always it looks flat in artlantis. I put an image here to see how works cristal fresnel, can you see the reflect? is not flat, this enhance the image, what do you think? Lucho

Thank you for your comments.
Your attached picture: I see that this reflection causes more depth. Yes, an important enhancement. I also think that there is room for enhancements on the rest of the window. If the entire glass has a depth in its reflection like on the right side, the picture would have been much better, i think. Do you mean fresnel glass, or is there a new shader in Art 2 that is named cristal fresnel? Did you use x-y distortion on it or did you change any other of the regular parameters? Hi Jon
i mean fresnel glass, sorry the translation in spanish is cristal fresnel jejeje, you are right if probably you extend the effect to all the window it takes depth, at the image i used the automatic detection of glass panels at the material menu (it comes since version 1.2), i didnt use the xy distortion, i changed the flatness of the window and the size of distorsion of the glass panel. I really like the effect of color of the dark glass in your first render, how did you make it?

Hey!
I'm about to get the new Artlantis version at work, so I'll probably be focusing more on good reflections then. I will attach new pictures when this happens. Believe it or not, I've got good expectations about this update I used fresnel glass with reflections and a blue color mix. I also did a hightlight blur in photoshop, but that's not affecting the window panes. If you wonder where I got the tree in the front, it's from the LANDSCAPING ENTOURAGE CDs at realworldimagery. I find them very useful sometimes. Have you got some more pictures, maybe in the gallery? And are you using Artlantis Studio 2.0 today? Jon |

I am working with version 1.2.6 , it would be interesting to see some of your renders made with 2.0 i hope notices soon Another thing, perhaps we can start here a forum of artlantis what do you think? Lucho

I will try to get some of my pictures out on the artlantis page soon.
Got the upgrade to Artlantis Studio 2 today, and below is my first render. I did some post in photoshop. I'll just provide a link this time, avoiding spamming the thread with big pictures. http://www.bluepaperproject.com/artlantis/test.jpg My opinion is that it's much easier to achieve good specular lights and reflections now. Everything gets smoother, and the shadows makes more depth. Let's keep this thread for Artlantis posts, I think it would be healthy to expand Artlantis out from the Artlantis site too. |
