here's the bump problem

no matter what setting I use, (even a bump intensity of 1) I get theses plotchy noisy artifacts once bumps are turned on
tweaking/cleaning the bump maps source didn't help

darth_shader: no regathering on the previous image (didn't improve much) and just one skysystem (skylight+sun)
filtering of the solution set to 2
rendering of solution + direct illumination (raytraced shadows)
That's the same problem I have with the sponza scene ...
Anyone that has a sollution for it?
I've tried everything ... (exept regathering, seems like my PC can't handle that, VIZ4 hangs when I try to render with it ...)

And if you ask me, Lightwave scores best in that content.
Man, what a results !
Super realistic !
Not even 1 VIZ4 image in the contest where I think : "Hmmm, is that a photo or a CG image?"

I hope Autodesk fixes this soon!

well i've not yet used viz 4, only viz 3, but try this -

1) supersampling - try messing with these settings for the main material

2) material filtering - the standard is set to pyramidal, change this to summed area with a value of 0.5 Try this for both diffuse AND bump channels.

3) rendering filters - try a different render filter other than the standard area filter. try catmull-rom maybe.

Hi SAMP!
U should use Radiosity Override in Material Editor. Try to change Indirect Bump Map Scale. Set this parameter much below default. The value between 0,2-0,4 often causes ViZ to produce nice (acceptable I mean) results. Best regards.

It looks like you need to set your refine iterations (all objects) higher. 2 is always a good number. It may take a little longer for the solution to run. But I think it should fix your problem.

Hi Frank
I thing that refining iterations won't help, when u use regathering. I suggest u to decrease indirect light bump scale. Best regards. P.S. Here is nice tutorial http://www.alexcasanova.com/ (tutorials section)

Indeed wojcieh. Refining won't help when using regathering. Decreasing the indirect light bump scale will get the job done.

I cannot use regathering since my VIZ4 hangs then on my old crappy PC

Btw, the example image here is NOT mine!
But I have he same problems.

And usualy I take 3 for refine itirations, so that'll do
