3D controllers for modeling

Apologies if an old discussion, can't get the search to work for me this morning.

Are many of you using a 3D controller for your modeling work (not for navigating a real-time walkthru but for building the model), something like a Space Navigator? Do they work with Acad? Are they really helpful or just gimmicky?

The Space Navigator is nice. I use the Nostromo SpeedPad n52 for modeling in Modo. It is very customizable and affordable. http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=157024
I got mine for $18 at buy.com (with the $10 off for first time google buyers).
