Default Total noob to DMVC

Ok, where do I start.

I thought of visiting South Africa and the bushveld in May, but now feel a much bigger urge to visit the DMVC. plus, I have never been to the states and this is the perfect opportunity for me.

But where do i start. do I first register with the DMVC or first get a visa.

Also another question, looking at the rate for a single room in the 'Westin Boston Waterfront' hotel arranged by the DMVC, is that price for a single night or the duration of the DMVC?

Hi Koper,

I don't know much about getting Visas, but if that is something that might pose a problem, I suppose I would take care of it first. The room block has the potential to sell out I would imagine, as it did last year. When you are sure you are going, you'll probably want to go ahead and book the room. The rate listed is a nightly rate.

Cheers,
Mishka

Hi AdriaaN,

If you need us to write a letter for you to help you in obtaining your Visa, please let me know. Send me an email at jmottle(at)vismasters(dot)com with the specifics of what you require and I'll arrange to have one written for you.

As Miska already pointed out the rooms rates are per night and will sell out very quickly, so you'll want to book that as soon as you possibly can.

I would take care of your Visa first. I doubt it will be an issue, but I'd get started on that process this week if you think you will be coming.

Hope to see you there! It's been a few years since we first met at IMAGINA.

Cheers,
Jeff

Hmmm, too late for the block accomodation booking by the looks of it, unless someone can tell me otherwise. I just tried to book and was unable to.

Which dates specifically were you trying to book? We have rooms available from May 9 -13. I've just checked the room blocks and we still have space. Right now we are about 40% booked already.

Right now it looks like the new report we just pulled shows that we have sold out all of the rooms. We are going to try to secure more rooms tomorrow at the conference rate and I will post back tomorrow with an update. You can currently book outside of our block, but at a much higher rate. One thing you might consider doing is booking a room outside the block and if/once we secure more rooms, you can convert it to the group rate. If you do this, make sure you can cancel the room in case we are not able to secure more rooms. I'll have more info shortly. Stay Tuned.

Koper, I work a few blocks from the Westin. There are plenty of hotels in this area. All within walking distance. There is also public transportation nearby as well.

The closest public transportation are the Red and Silver lines. The Red Line is the fastest subway and if your hotel is near a Cambridge stop on the Red Line it will take you maybe a half hour to get there (but like all the Boston subways it stops around 12:30 - consider yourselves warned). With the Red Line in the other direction you do run the risk of being too far away or in a bad neighborhood. The Green Line is the easiest connection to the Red Line but if you go too far on it to the west it will take you forever to get there, since the trains are locals and make a lot of street level stops. Of course, a hotel you can walk to is going to be better.

When in the hotel area keep an eye out for tall buildings with hats - my firm designed most of them.
