I do have to say I'm excited about this too!! Our firm has used Viz for quite some time now due to the lower price, but I've always pushed for an upgrade to Max to get all the features. Finally we'll be forced to upgrade. woo hoo!

Hi all,
I think that the Viz's death was in the mind of Autodesk when they bought Maya.. maybe they could start to sell Max at a lower price.. and, obviously, I agree with these two above.. as an architect you don't need all the power of Max.. so why to spend more if you won't to use those additional commands.. |

There are promotional prices for the first few months - I think it's April, May and maybe June, but you need to ask your vendor - where the crossgrade from a recent Viz to Max09 is about half the usual price, and about $250 if you're on subscription.

Isn't what's happening the same thing only with a new name? I mean before we had Max & Viz. Now we have MAx entertainment version & Max design version. Max design version = viz, just a name change?
I've read the release from autodesk, but I don't understand the need for two versions unless they are taking something away from the design version. Or adding something to the entertainment version, I just don't know what that "something" is...... while I agree that viz was good for architect's needs, that's only true from a still image stand point and even then, I've used particles in max to generate instanced geometry in an architectural still image. something I couldn't do in Viz. and animation wise, architects hands are/were tied with viz in some senarios. |
