Hi guys i know this has been covered again and again but i am struggling with one thing.
I found a script for converting vray mats to mental ray arch and design mats i have also found the vray material i want to convert here: http://www.vray-materials.de/all_materials.php?mat=1587 now all i need to know is how i use the script in order to convert it to an arch and design material. i want the exact same look in mental ray and the chrome preset just ain't doing it for me at the minute. the client produces counters (i.e. butchers) i used that a&d chrome and she said it isn't silver/shiny enough so i guessed that the vray material in the link i have given is perfect and she agreed. so could anyone give pointers as to how i would use the script (oh by the way the script is on zap's site which i'm sure everyone is familiar with) or could you guys give me pointers on how to achieve the same quality in MR. It needs to look exactly like the vray mat in the link cheers guys (this is kind of urgent) |

Read a bit further on Zaps blog there is a post on how to make metals more metal, quite good The script is just a stop gap, it wont change the vray shaders exactly to A&D. they are similar but definiterly not a one stop solution. Have you read and digested the doc's covering the A&D shader? Once you start to apply the theroy spelt out in the doc things should start to fall into place for you. JHV |

Also, that image from vray-materials.de says nothing. Metal is all about reflections, i.e. what it reflects. If you don't have enough interesting things to reflect, you won't get anywhere.
See my metal post on my blog, and how boring the "gold lit by sun" looks compared to "gold in kitchen", yet the material is totally 100% identical. This even maps to real life; I was just in a photo studio of a well known manifacturer of stuff, including pots and pans... and in the photo studio, to photograp pots and pans, you have a special rooms with large bright soft lights, and then they have black cylinders and things, to get "interesting reflections" into the metal. /Z Quote:
