Impressive, very impressive. (sorry, too geeky!)
Like the composition of the shot-dark but not too dark, and a great idea. I particularly like (whether it be coincidence or planned) that the spiral of the tower bricks seem to reflect the driving rain. The lights out front seem very secure. Would make for an excellent "Day after tomorrow/Perfect Storm" scene! Good work. |

Hey, nice!! Its your rainy style! Definetaly your trademark
Congrats on being the first to post your Final! Although I have some crits: The composition could be improved a little IMO - giving the tower a little breathing space and expanding the image upwards (and perphaps cropping a little on the left side - not sure because I very much like the stromy ocean!) The building sits nicely there camouflaged with a green roof that fluidly transforms in the cliffs. One thing that is missing is some greater reflection in the glass facing the sea, at least in some areas. I like the overall tint of your image. Well done Derek! Good luck!

Hi Derek..
nice work over all. i like your ocean and the tower mainly. the design is not very clear to me because of the camera angle. your stair lightings are cool. what is really bothering me is the Rain. is it a photo shop layer? (i am not sure). if we ovserve the image closely we can see except the ocean, every thing is really dry. we expect to see most of the exterior elements wet and a lot of lot of speculer highlights and water reflections here and there to make your image more convincing. So if u really want to use rain for real its a big challange for you. people out side of your building seems to be enjoying the rain though...or they are not feeling it? so get it more wet |

Thanks for the comments guys - it's always interesting to see your own work through someone else's eyes! Glad the stormy nature of it went down well.
Yeah, I realise now the biggest thing missing is the reflections. Maxwell generated a few faint ones (you can at least make out the pathway bollards reflecting) but I wasn't sure how much more would be picked up by the glass, as it's so light inside and dark outside. Maybe once all this is over I'll tweak it a little! As for the rain, it was very much a "should I / shouldn't I" decision until last minute, added in as a Photoshop layer. I hadn't planned to do it when setting the render up, so that's why it all looks a little dry. I had a go at applying rain streaks to the glass but wasn't happy with the results. As for the people outside, I made sure a fair few of them are holding umbrellas or have thick coats on! Thanks again everyone - certainly learnt a lot from it! |
