Default Adriaan van Jaarsveld - Final

So this is my entrée for the AVC 2008. I had a very good time doing this image and am very pleased with this submission. I hope it is to the satisfaction of everyone and anyone.

Good luck to my fellow competitors, it was FUN!!

Great stuff - makes we want to go for a dip! Love the golf buggies too!

Seems like a really peaceful place - top job!

I am not really sure abaout the concept of the museum, I think the image shows a different type of building. Even the golf cars and the restaurant tables give me a resort sensation more than a museum.

Good work.
I like the feel of the place-the buggies make me think you've thought about how the thing would actually work. How are people going to get around?! The curve on the right hand side seems to be all the rage at the mo-and for good reason.
I love the primary shape of the building.
The sea has been rendered well, with nice reflections.
Cheers

I think that concept was inspired by boat shape which is correct. And cars are obviously not golf cars but rather touristic cars for visitors.
Secondly i like this picture.

Adriaan,

you started off with a 'building' concept as opposed to a contextual issue, and yet you managed to pull it off smartly by desolating it and complimenting your own design with the distance and contrast from the lighthouse's location and era respectively.. you even went a step further and designed and modeled your own golf carts...lovely! now, my questio to you is, why the HELL would you use these upholstered wooden 'let's pick out from our model library' tables and chairs?! i would have much rather see you perfect this otherwise PERFECT image with some organic and curvy white plastic custom designed 'karim rashid' sort of furniture!

very nice render..well studied and executed, from GI to fake caustics... Great effort! congratulations! well done!

Museum??! The competition is about a tourist center. It can be anything from being a pure small information shack to a 5star hotel. I feel my image is open to interpretation enough so that it can be called a resort if you want. I tried not to bog down the centre to a particular function of sort

true, but i did model the little orange cushions . I do see your point when you compare it to the golf carts, but it felt it would be tooo much having organic curvy white plastic furniture. The image has three already, the shell, the bridge & the golf cart (rule of thirds don't just apply to composition)

I think the furniture is appropriate to the setting. It's the same sort of teak construction you might find on an old fashioned cruise ship, so it's thematically consistent, and practical - it will resist salt spray very well, and it folds for storage or if you want the space cleared.

If I were to critique, I'd say it's somewhat non-specific (which isn't necessarily bad) and the curvature isn't smooth where it meets the flat soffit which is why you see the break in the reflection. I'm not sure how one fixes that in Max... can you force the tangent at the start to be horizontal?...

Really nice job overall.

Nice!
Overall I like it!
Just a few crits if I may :
1) Composition would look more ballanced if in the right side of the picture (1/4 way from the top) there would be something about the size of your thumb - or half thumb (or smaller), perphaps a plane which could carry a hidden message of tourism.
2) It would be nice if on one of the tables there was a soda or smth.
3) The caustics are nice - very good addition to the image - they could be less parralel and more random.
4) Some tire tracks leading to the carts could bring in some more detailing in your image and a hint that there is someone present at the center.
5) A bump map could enrichen the pavement under the carts - or maybe some displacement.
6) I think its missing a tree or two

Other than than I like it!! Nice work and nice WIP you certainly told the story there too!
Congrats

Cheers

hello
There is really pleasant, sunny and invitting mood on Your picture. I wish to be there! I enjoy interpretating (sorry for my english) shape of building. There are some notticeable inspirations but not so obvious (thats means You've got knowledge to read architecture - thats good). And tiny cars are so cute
Well done
regards
