Here is my final image which i am very happy with, The model is pretty basic but my image is to show my concept and how it works with the landscape. The compass sits on the roof of the first block which has more platforms that lead down from the tower (will be shown in animation)
The actual design of the centre could have been tweaked some more, but i've had some very heavy weeks at work so have done what i could in the time. Good luck to all competitors! Cheers Christiaan ps. If you look closely the restaurant does have supports underneath incase anyone is worried about how the hell the building is sitting there |

Trere's one think that bothers me: the sky. I think its composed of 3 different textures and they are not exactly fit each other. Texture from left is a bit too much stretched. Besides everything is fine, rocks are realistic and general climate is impressive. |

hey Chris,
even though i can see you have some REALLY impressive photoshop skills, i have to agree with Pawel about the sky and clouds! furthermore, I think your support is not enough, but that's not the point.. I think a sturdier randomly design spaghetti column structure sitting on the ocean bed would look a lot more interesting with your fascinating structure and design. wish you had spent more time developing it..looking forward to your development and animation!

Well done. I think this is my favorite entry.
1) Technically it is very strong. Very nice materials and model. 2) Building design is very cool. Love the way it hangs above the water. Gives and exciting feel to the image. 3) Mood is my favorite thing about it, especially with the sky you picked. Stormy on one side and sunny on the other. Two thumbs up. |

As a whole composition so far my favourite. I like the mood too. Just have 2 comments from a 2D artist like myself. The clouds above the building look very distorted (vertically elongated) in comparison to the rest of the skys image, shoul've redrawn the space that you wanted to fill. The builidning(s) is great and one of my favourite concepts but I still feel like you have some unfinished corners. You relied on your great concept, I want more

Thanks for the crits, just so you know the sky is made up from 1 single photo, i did excentuate the height of the clouds on the left as they are storm clouds that are generally large and tall.
The actual design of my units will develop a lot more for the animation. |

Hey Christiaan Good job there. its time for our crits. your over all mood is ok. but if we look closely at your picture, alot of production flaws breaks out. i am not sure if there is much 3d in this picture eccept the tower and the buildings. but you did a good paint job. its not finished as it should be. we can see some poorly textured glasses on some of your upper buildings which is not cool. its more like a WIP or conceptual in many areas. sky texture is really streched on the left side. on the right the white t-shirt guy standing on a risky position so as your front building. Realy like your water and smoky trails great work in this area. over all its really a dreamy situation not very realistic. Good Luck!!

Chutti,
If you actually looked at my WIP thread then you would know that the landscape was all modelled in 3D and then had some more texture applied to it in photoshop. The sky is made from 1 photo (that yes perhaps i haven't quite got the ratio right) but it was to make the scene more atmospheric. As i said in my post i was very limited with time, my final render was completed with only hours from the deadline so i kept the buildings in the conceptual stage as they will be further developed for the animation. |
