Hey MR experts...does anyone know of an equivalent to vray's water level setting in its displacement...I thought I was on to something when I checked "cutout" in the A+D material... but there wasn't any way to adjust it...

Cant give you any hints for the displacment, but for cutout, think of cutout as opacity mapping on steroids. In actual fact it acts as a pass through instuction for the rays. Hence works much better than normal opacity mapping.
What does the water level do, is it something to do with the base height of the dispacement? jhv |

Water level is clipping, you specify the depth, and what is below that, is cut. In this case, the black areas, so in this wicker texture , you can see through it...

You simply put the displacement map also into the cutout map. What you WANT do to is to threshold the cutout map. Just do what you did, but with one addition: For the cutout, pipe the displacement map through the "Output" shader, and set a curve with a sharp discontinuity on it. It should look like a stairstep, with everything below a certain level should be 0, and everything about that level should be 1. ![]() /Z
