Hello...
I was trying to bring in a particular material that I did in an earlier project, and I've somehow lost my A&D Materials. In Max File #1, I clicked on the material, then the icon to save to library. In Max File #2, I clicked on the material library and the material came in fine (yay!), but my A&D materials are all gone. Instead of glass or chrome or any A&D Material I select, it's just a shiny gray. This happened once before and I ended up re-installing 3DS Max, but that was a different version. I'd like to know a 'better' way without getting the sledge hammer out to 'fix' it. Also, with this new 64-bit operating system, I wasn't able to back everything up to my external drive, as Norton Ghost did not like the 64-bit drivers. I have an image and I suppose I could restore just the Autodesk folder, but I'd hate to have to do that. I have a feeling it's just a path or something simple, but I have no idea where to look. Thanking you... |

Hi,
I did a SEARCH here but did not find anything. However, after posting the above, I searched every post in the Mental Ray area and found this post: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/22500-...t-working.html I renamed the folder in my 64-bit program area and copied the folder from the 32-bit folder. Success! Man, it's so crazy. You read about "making your own material library" but when you do, it stuffs your A&D materials up! I took the advice in the other thread and made the files in the materiallibraries folder read only. At least I know how to 'fix' it. Thanks for letting me ramble on a bit. |

Yup, bad things can happen when you try to add custom materials to the default libraries. However, you can always simply save your materials to your own "insert whatever name here".mat file.
