guys maybe stupid question, but what is best way, if you have lots of materials in scene and mtl editor window 6x4 is not inough? I'm using pick material fro object and then changing and ..., but maybe there is an easier way? thanks

No need for more, 1 or 2 is more efficient, uses less memory too.
Dont forget that you can drag and drop a material from one slot to another to copy it. just remeamber to rename the copy A often over looked tool is the material library jhv |
