Default hologram projection

hi guys,

i was trying to figure how to create the vertical hologram projection effect with mr, any ideas?
from the real-life examples, a mixture of different colors are projected, creating the translucent shape of the object.

Technically a hologram is a volumetric effect, so depending on how difficult you want to make it, try the parti-volume shader

Id rather play with mapping the image onto a plane with varying levels of opacity and translucency.

Even those savvy folks at ILM do it in post but if you're up for the challenge of doing it with mental ray, all the best.

Here's a link to a quick "how-to" guide using After Effects.
