Default Dual Xeon question

A friend told me that two Xeons would be overkill and that they're not optimized for graphics rendering.

Comments would be appreciated!

They certainly are optimal for rendering, using almost any current software-based renderer such as Vray, mental ray, Maxwell, etc. 2 is almost twice as fast as 1.

Whether it's "overkill" depends on your budget and needs.

Your friend must be serving the net and opening word documents. Is he/she aware of how much cpu/ram power rendering utilizes? Probably not.
Like Aaron said, it's only overkill if your wallet can't handle it or your simply serving the intrawebs
