Default VRAY Sun and Sky

When using the Vray sun it automatically puts in a VRay sky environment map. My question is does this map then give me my environment lighting????

Or do i still need to turn on GI Skylight in the vray rollout???

From what i gather they are both doing the same thing, in other words i could use one or the other???

By putting a Vray Sky in the environment slot of your dropdown, you are able to control both the Sky and the environment individually. You can tone down the VraySky and bump up the environment lighting in your dropdown menu or vise-versa.

No, you don't need to use the GI Environment skylight.

thanks trevor, that was more along the lines of the answer i was looking for, am i right in thinking that i would need to use the environment override if i opted not to use a vray sky???

I was talking about the Vray:Environment drop down (GI Environment Override).

Absolutely. The vraysky was designed to be used with the vray sun and physical camera. They don't all have to be used together however.

Personally I use them all together, or none.

i quite like using the physical cam regardless of the scene, as i like the exposure controls on it.

but with regards to lighting, i guess it depends whichever solution does what i need it to do in the quickest time and renders the fastest

but i do quite like the way the sun/sky changes colours etc when you move it around in 3d space

is there a direct control for setting time/date/location in vray or has that not been introduced yet??

btw thanks for the help so far guys

Sure, you can link the VRay Sun to a max daylight system to get that.
