hi. i'm not really sure what to title this thread.
i'm doing a large urban design layout (mixed use residential, commercial, retail, science and tech) for a site c.400acres and the only aspect of the layout that has been designed in any kind of way is the road layout. i'm using generic blocks everywhere and basic trees, cars, people etc. and the level of detail is low. it started out as a massing model excercise and has taken a life of its own since. the client wants images and a flythrough of the model. the result does not need to be photo-realistic so i've messed around with vraytoon and f-Edge here and there to add a bit of detail and make some low detail buildings look a bit more detailed. no textures just basic simple colours used (green for grass (obviously) white buildings, grey road, black vraytoon outlines). i've also messed around with a fake balsa model look which looked good at the start. i'm looking for advice, suggestions and inspiration on a style or look i could apply to my model using vray and 3ds max. i'm getting very frustrated trying to make the model look half descent with very little to work with (nothing new in this place!!). unfortunately i cannot post images of my model as it's very hush hush at present. i'd be very grateful for any suggestion or help. thanks again. |

if its a large terrain, you can use vray proxys to add more detail to your models and keep handle viewports and saving rendertime.
i don't know how you're using vraytoon. i would need to see an image in order to give you a better advice. |

thanks giovanni. i'm aware of the proxy possibilities but none of the buildings have been designed and are likely not to be designed before my deadline. i've attached some images of where i'm at. i'm just looking for some inspiration on how i could bring this low detail model to life.
