Hi guys, you are probably thinking that I am an idiot, well I sort of am. I have been working on a portfolio for entrance into a Masters program and am nearly in tears. My setup that I have now just cannot run open any of my previous work and the clock is ticking!! So I have decided to put together a decent system for myself because it is the only way I will get this done.
I have been reading the forums and I think the I will go with the Q6600 SLACR because it seems good value for money (and I dont have much being a student). I have bought a nVidia Quadro FX 4400 ( I know its old) off eBay, Revit and Rhino do not seem to like my Geforce 8800 GTS. What motherboard would be a good matchup with this CPU? Also I am looking for one that is easily upgradable in terms of CPU and RAM. I will be looking at putting in 4GB to start with but will like to go to 8GB real soon. Sorry to seem so lost, but I am. I am open to any suggestions anyone might have. Thanks in advance. Jay |

I got a Gigabyte EP35-DS3R and am pretty happy with it.
It's very overclock friendly (not that I have overclocked it). |

My Abit P35 works great with my Q6600. I have also used an older Gigabyte 965P before.
Basically, any P35 chipset board will run great with a Q6600...it really comes down to how many sata ports you need, how many PCi-X slots, how much you want to overclock, etc. BTW, No overclock is ever guaranteed. I know people who have bought Q6600s thinking they would be able to OC it like crazy and could barely run stock speeds stable. |
