Matrox makes some cards that are meant to accelerate Premiere editing by doing a lot of the commonly used effects in hardware. Expect to pay over $1000 but if you do a lot of this work it may be worth it. There are some others but I can't think of any off hand, but some web searching would turn them up. If you don't want to make that sort of investment, any decent card would do, and it wouldn't matter much which one you got because the work is done by the CPU, not the video card.
This might change in CS4. Do some research and find out if the new features that use GPU computing are used in Premiere and After Effects, or whether they're only in Photoshop. When they did the demos they showed Photoshop doing a really impressive job on something like a 2GB file using GPU computing. |
