greetings dudes
i've recently installed windows SP2 on my Viz 4 machine, and all of a sudden Viz is playing silly buggers - it wont open/import and kinds of files, and it wont save/export any types of files. i've removed viz from the system and re-installed it too, with similar results. My I.T. manager is currently re-formatting the HD completely for a fresh windows install. Any body know of any WinXP SP2 and Viz4 conflict errors? or is it just one of those computery thingies? |

Good Luck Strat!! ---Strat, I took a quick look on Autodesk's website and there's a service pack (SP2) for VIZ that I think was what cleared up my problem. Last edited by MJL Imaging; October 7th, 2004 at 08:22 AM. |

i couldn't find any reference to the problem or a patch on autoDesk's web site, but i've left a message with my dealer to call me a.s.a.p. i've previously already installed viz sp2 but it had no effect |

strat .. autodesk will say that there isn't a problem with viz but with windows and microsoft will say there isn't a problem with windows, but with viz.
so it must be again the user who is the problem ...

Try adding -Q to the shortcut that launches VIZ.
To do that, right-click the 3dsviz shortcut, choose properties, and add -Q after 3dsviz.exe. For instance, my shortcut looks like this: "c:\program files\autodesk viz4\3dsviz.exe" -q Let us know if it helps, Alexander |

Ok, here's what I was told. According to the word by Autodesk, SP2 will not let VIZ run, apparently it isn't supported by windowsXP SP2. He suggested installing all of the windowsupdates, get VIZ running and go from there. You can try installing XP SP2, if it doesn't work, then go to Add/ Remove programs, and it'll let you uninstall SP2.

-Q supresses the Splash Screen. VIZ and MAX 3 will only work under SP2 if you do that. I've seen some systems also require that for VIZ 4 and VIZ Render 2004. The symptom is to get a crash with an error 0x00000005 when you start the program. If you get that, the -Q solution should fix it.
If it's something else, then it's new even to me, and I have XP SP2 on my 3 office machines and they all run MAX 2.5 - MAX 7, along with VIZ 2 - VIZ 2005. Alexander |
