Default Challenge #1 question

Are we allowed to rotate the shapes?

You can do anything you want with the shapes and duplicate them as many times as you want. The only thing you can't do is scale them so they original proportions are lost. You can also add small fileting/chamfering to the edges to catch the light if you like.

Did I understand your question correctly?

Yep I think so. I just didn't read anything earlier that mentioned rotating on Z-axis.

Next question... Since we are allowed to use maps, does that include displacement mapping? I don't have my idea yet, but I would like to get a sense for what our limits are.

Given the fact that one can make almost anything with displacement mapping I will say no only so they the playing field is even. The underlying intent of the competition is to see how creative people can be with the shapes given through the use of light and composition.

If i have understand, we can't use displacement mapping for modifying geometry, but can we use it for texturing, like we could doing with bump mapping?

Yes small bump mapping is ok, but displacement mapping to alter the shape of the original shapes significantly is not ok.

You need to use all of the shapes in your scene, but how many and where they are placed are up to you.
