Press Release

Ed Goldberg, AIA Author's of New Book on ADT 2005

If your New Year’s resolution includes brushing up on your CAD skills, or perhaps upgrading your office’s technology, check out Ed Goldberg’s latest full length book, “Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2005: A Comprehensive Tutorial”. Publisher Prentice Hall, who released the volume in late 2004, reports that Ed’s books (2005 is latest in a series preceded by ADT versions 3 and 2004) are top sellers in the academic market, primarily in community colleges, a major resource for CAD education.

Architectural professionals, as well, will find the books a valuable resource for training. Ed is the only practicing licensed architect writing on this subject. As a working professional, he is an ADT user. He also draws on ten years of experience as a college instructor. Therefore, he writes a training manual that is uniquely suited to both the classroom and the professional office. The book’s amply illustrated hands-on tutorial format makes learning easy. It builds skills incrementally, from beginning though advanced levels of mastery and the content focuses on those features that are most relevant to professional practice. The final chapter illustrates a step-by-step example, showing how to apply all the tools to a real world project. Ed’s book is not only practical, pragmatic and user friendly, it incorporates a workflow methodology that translates into immediate productivity gains. The book retails for $53.33 and is available directly from the publisher at www.prenhall.com or at leading bookstores.

Ed also provides customized on-line training in ADT and other related digital technologies, particularly those related to visualization and presentation. Ed is a leading AEC Industry Analyst and a Contributing Editor for CADALYST Magazine. He also writes the ADT tutorials for “ Inside AutoCad”, a subscription based newsletter. For more information on his training, you may contact him at h.e.goldberg@verizon.net or check out his website www.hegra.org .

Here’s what professionals have to say about Ed’s book:

“Ed Goldberg writes a well organized software guide in the same direct and lucid style he employs in his many magazine articles on this subject. As an architect trained in an era when pencils and pens were standard equipment in the design studio, he understands how to approach a design problem, proceeding from conception and modeling through technical drawing and specification to construction. His book is a valuable asset for those of us with similar backgrounds who wish to maintain a “hands on” relationship with the documents produced by our practice, but are often frustrated by the necessity of continually learning new software.”

Michael J. Linehan, AIA, Architect. Director Facilities Management, Johns Hopkins

Univ. School of Public Health

"As a practicing architect, I appreciate Ed Goldberg's practical approach to writing for the architectural CAD community. Architectural Desktop is a very deep program; yet, this book is written in a way that makes it easy to teach. Because Ed is a practicing architect, he understands what is involved in the process of designing and documenting buildings.  To him it's not just computer programming and architectural theory: his book "makes it real".

Dean R. Camlin, AIA, President
DEAN ROBERT CAMLIN & ASSOCIATES, INC.

“Mr. Goldberg handles a complex subject in an easy-to-understand style that will have you working more efficiently immediately. He covers virtually every aspect of creating a complete 3D building model using Architectural Desktop 2005. Thanks to a well thought out design, this book will be a handy reference long after you’ve completed the tutorials.”

Art Liddle, Architect. Editor Inside AutoCAD Journal (former editor of Cadalyst magazine)

“Ed Goldberg's, easy to follow, tutorial approach to ADT applies the program tools from an architect's perspective. While Autodesk's program manual contains useful operational information, it doesn't provide the professional in the field with a workflow methodology. Ed's book fills this gap, beautifully.”

Louis Cibarro, CAD Manager; Perkins & Will Architects, NYC
