Hello Darren, Im using LWF method to adjust the dark you could use correction curve in the vray frame buffer. this is created using HDRI and ies for the light sources. Thanks

How you set up your light? I'm currently using photometric ies +vray sun, just the effect as good as you did which is more ambient,natural. My rendering always come too dark, what can i improve from that?
