Hi Bryan, thanks I have the same problem I use a way for it is very similar to Vray displacement in Mental ray but not always works I don't know why, in an arch and design slot I put a bitmap of a grass texture (in map channel 1) on diffuse matte, then I put a really good bump texture with pretty small white points as bump and displacement(but with map channel 2),here the values marks the tall of grass, then I aply an UVWmap with map channel 1 for the scale of green texture and aply another UVWmap in map channel 2 for the bump a little small this marks the scale of clumps or something render some test to see the height. This is a great way to make a realistic grass without make the scene too heavy in Mental ray but if it does'nt works use Multiscatter or Forest Pack plugin.
Wow that is vey nice! I always had some problems doing a good looking grass with mental ray. How did you do that if it is possible to ask? Grazie!
