That's the kind of help I need, thank you for much. I used 3ds max 2011, and vray 2. Obviously rendering images is much more indepth these days, than just using something you've just learnt how to do. Brilliant advise, thank you :)!!!
So you are asking for advice... this will be harsh, but hopefully it helps. And it would be nice to know which program(s) you used. First, your composition is nothing great. You horizon should be on a third... maybe the lower-third. And the road area that is currently ends dead center should be on the left or right third. I would help to give importance to something in the scene as right now nothing seems important. (Refer to Rule of Thirds in photography... only time horizon dead-center is acceptable is when the scene is one point and going for symmetry.) Second, your scene is between an abandoned desert scene and one that has life. Either way, the buildings look too clean for being in the desert. Then add lighting or depth inside the buildings or the natural lighting coming in the windows on the other side of the building for emptiness. Lastly, not a big fan of the sun lighting. If you are doing something architectural, you could pass with a midday over shoulder from the camera sun for design purpose... but you are looking for portfolio, look at sunset/dusk/blue hour. This first prevents hard contrast and always for artificial lighting from inside building. Then again, if this is to look abandoned, then this lighting may work. Hopefully that helps... and I'm not trying to be a troll, I'm hoping this helps push you forward.
